The practical guide

Electric snow shovel vs snow blower: which fits your space?

A narrow walkway and a full driveway are different jobs. Compare the clearing width, handling and surface before picking the smaller tool.

Toro 60V Power Shovel kit

A powered snow shovel can make sense for smaller paved areas. A wheeled snow blower is worth comparing when there is more ground or snow to clear. Start with the actual route, not just the size of the machine in a photograph.

Look at the whole space

Count the paths and paved areas you clear, including the route to bins and gates. A smaller clearing width can fit a narrow path, but means more passes across a broad driveway. Also consider where the discharged snow can safely land.

Toro's 12-inch 60V Power Shovel manual describes residential use on patios, sidewalks and small driveways. It is not intended for gravel. Do not assume a powered shovel is suitable for deep drifts or hard-packed piles simply because it is motorised.

Compare the jobs, not just the dimensions

Your situation Powered shovel Wheeled snow blower
Small paved route A compact option to consider. Check whether its width and turning space fit.
Larger driveway A narrow pass can mean more repeated work. Compare clearing widths and the drive system.
Deep or compacted snow Check the specific tool's operating limits. Consider an appropriate two-stage model.
Gravel The Toro Power Shovel example is unsuitable. Choose a model explicitly approved for gravel.

Check the weight with its battery installed, grip position and the effort needed to guide it. A smaller machine is not automatically easier for every person or route.

The same tool can come in different packages

Interline lists two Toro 12-inch 60V Power Shovel packages: model 39909 with a 2.5Ah battery and charger, and model 39909T as tool-only. The tool-only version makes sense only if you have, or plan to buy, the approved power equipment.

Confirm the exact package before ordering. For comparison, the battery Power Clear E21 has a 21-inch clearing width and a wheeled layout; that changes how you cover a larger area.

What to measure before buying

  • The narrowest access point and the total area to clear.
  • The storage space and route out to the snow.
  • The surface and your usual snow conditions.
  • The complete tool weight and comfortable handling.
  • The included battery, charger and compatible spare options.

For a larger machine, use our single-stage vs two-stage guide. Whichever tool you choose, keep hands away from moving parts and follow its shutdown and clearing instructions if snow jams.
